Safari

Safari:

The main reason why people buy laptops is so they can go online. Apple's version of Internet Explorer from PC is Safari. Safari is a browsing application that works quite fast and is very sufficient.

Reading List:

When coming across something you find interesting on the internet, you can quickly save the website into reading list. With iCloud, you can keep track of all of the website you have saved in reading list on all Apple devices. The reading list allows you to browse through some of your favourite websites quickly.

Multi-Touch Gestures:

There are many touch gestures you can use on the trackpad that can be used to navigate around Safari. The following are just a couple of examples of some multi-touch gestures:

1) SWIPE TO NAVIGATE
- With this touch gesture, you can swipe between safari tabs and go back in your history in the Safari window.

2) TAP TO ZOOM
- By double taping the same place on the track pad, you can zoom in on the screen of a Safari window. You can double tap the same spot a second time and the screen will go back to its original view.

3) PINCH TO ZOOM
- By using this action, you can zoom in and out more precisely that the tap to zoom. By swiping your fingers out, you will zoom in on the safari window. If you swipe your fingers in, you will zoom out the safari window. The Safari window will turn back to normal

4) TWO-FINGER SCROLL
- For this action you just put two fingers on the track pad. Swipe up to scroll up and                              swipe down to scroll down. It is a very simple action and the most commonly used one on safari.

Full Screen Browsing:

With this new feature, you can enlarge Safari so that it takes up your whole screen space. It will hide out your dock and top bar. You can only see these two features if you minimize the Safari screen to its original size.  This new feature allows you to browse through Safari with larger images and writing, making it easier for you to browse through.

OS X Mountain Lion

It has been recently announced by Apple that the OS X Mountain Lion is coming out in the summer. It is an upgrade from Lion OS X. To find out information about Lion OS X, visit my first blog entry from 2011.

Reminders: originally, reminders only came on the iPhone, but now with OSX Mountain Lion, it has included reminders on its system. With iCloud, your reminders will be recorded on every Apple device you own. You can set due dates and you can get alerts for deadlines. There is also a search box field in the reminders application that allows you to find any reminder very quickly.

Notification centre: something new is the notification centre, which has not been used on any Apple device before. Notification centre will inform you if you have an email, instant message, friend request, a calendar alert and more. Notification allows you to keep up with everything that is going on. The notification centres pops up quickly on the right side of the screen and then disappears so it won't bother you too much.

Game centre: again, an application from the iPhone has been used in the new Apple processing system. Not only can you play on the game centre, but you can play with other people on other Apple devices. For example, you can be playing on the game centre on your laptop whilst playing with someone else who is on an iPod touch. This means that no matter what Apple device you are using, you can play game centre whenever you want.

Sharing: A new button on safari called 'share' allows you to spread the word about links, photos or videos you enjoy. This is the new, easier way to share links that you are interested in.

Apple Accessories

The following are accessories that can be used for Apple products:

These earbuds come with all the iPods and the iPhone. With these headphones you can pause, play, rewind or speed up music or video's without using the actual Apple device. For example, if you are listening to music on your iPod, you can pause the music without physically touching the iPod. The picture in the right hand corner is the small control used to pause, play, rewind or speedup music and video's. The '+' and '-' are used to raise or lower the volume.

The dock is an Apple accessory that can charge and sync Apple devices. For example, you can connect your iPod to your stereo so you can share your music. The control in the picture to the right can be used to control the music, just like the control above. However, this control is different because it can be used for all Apple devices, including the Apple TV and laptops. This control is also very small and sleek, making it convenient to store.

The majority of Apple products offer protection for any damage done to any Apple products, but they also provide protective cases. All of their cases come in every possible colour, patterns, textures and materials. Not only do the cases look nice on the Apple products, but they provide protection as well.

Mac Pro

Facts on the Mac Pro:

The processor of a Mac Pro can come in different sizes depending on what you need. The bigger the processor, the faster your desktop will run and vice-versa for a smaller processor. The new Mac Pro is up to 1.3 times faster than the previous Mac Pro because of the new processor and the speed of it.

The new Mac Pro has two 18x SuperDrive at you disposal. Documents, pictures, projects, etc. on your desktop could be backed up onto two different CD's at one time. This makes the burning process a lot faster and simpler. You can even have the two CD's doing something completely different from each other. You can import music whilst backing up your data at the same time.

The Mac Pro is user-friendly and is highly recyclable. The Mac Pro is made out of aluminium enclosure, aluminium is a recyclable product. This meaning that the Mac Pro can be reused in other Mac products. There is a little bit of plastic used in the Mac Pro, but it is made form post-consumer recycled plastic. Apple also tried very hard to no use harmful toxins in their product. Because the Mac Pro used recycled materials/materials that can be recycled, it earned the highest rating of EPEAT Gold (Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool Gold). EPEAT determines how environmentally friendly the product is, the amount of energy it uses, and how is it manufactured and designed. The Mac Pro met the EPEAT Gold expectations.

Facts about iCloud

Facts about iCloud:

The following is an advert made my Apple. This commercial introduces the viewer to how iCloud works and connects with different apple products.

iCloud's purpose is to store your content. Not only does it store your content, but it ensures that all of your apps on your mac for example, are also on your iPhone and other apple appliances. You could be taking pictures outdoors on your iPhone and once they are taken, they will instantly appear on your mac at home if you use iCloud. iCloud keeps your images, contacts, notes, apps ect. up to date across all of your apple devices. iCloud is easy to use and very simple to set up.

With iCloud, you don't need to send or sync anything. iCloud will automatically ensure that all devices have the same content on them. For example, you could begin a project on Pages on your iPad. Then you could later go onto your iPhone and open up the Pages document you began on your iPhone and continue working on it (Just like the picture below).

Lastly, iCloud also ensures that if you download an app, for example, on your iPhone, the same app will immediately appear on your iPad. This is helpful to the user because it means they don't have to go around to all of their Apple devices and download the same app. iCloud does all of the work for you.

In the picture above it shows that all of the apps that were downloaded on the iPhone have appeared on the iPad as well. If one of your devices crashes, all of your information is stored in iCloud and is also stored on your other Apple devices.

Not only does iCloud ensure that all of your Apple devices have the same data, but it also backs up everything and can help 'Save the day'.

Mac vs. PC - Transferring

Watch the following (it is a Apple vs. PC commercial based on transferring files):

What may be stopping some PC users from changing to a Mac is the transferring of files.  As shown in the video, transferring the files from a PC to a Mac is not as hard as it may sound.

You can even buy a mac laptop and have PC software on it if you wish to.

So if you do decide to switch to a Mac from a PC, all of the files from your PC will be on your Mac, so it will make the process a lot easier.

Watch the following (it is a Apple vs. PC commercial based on money):

Would you prefer to have great advertisement, and an awful computer, or decent advertisement and a great computer?  Lets face it, most of us would want decent advertising and a great computer.  The reason why PC still has Vista problems is because so much of their money is going towards advertisement and not computer problems.

Apple has a good balance, they provide enough money for advertisement and for fixing any problems they come across.  Apples advertisements is what helps there sales.  They have great advertisement which helps with there sales.

For PC, yes they put a lot of money into advertisement, which is supposed to attract consumers.  The only problem is, consumers don't want to buy a computer that has problems.

Watch the following: (It is a Mac vs. PC Commercial based on boxing.)

As PC said, Apple's sales are through the roof.  Reason being, Apple computer systems function really well because of how they apply technology to their products.  There products work really quickly and efficiently and that is what most people want

As shown in the commercial, PC is mad because Apple is doing so well.  PC is frustrated because Apple continues to create technology that a lot of people want.  Who doesn't want a fast working computer, not many people... who doesn't want a slow computer, many people.

Because Apple has technology that keeps advancing, this draws the public attention and they keep wanting to go back to the store to see what else has been recently invented.

Mac vs. PC - Innovation

Watch the following (It is a Apple bs. PC commercial based on innovation):

Protection is key when it comes to a laptop.  No one wants a laptop that will break easily when it falls.  When is comes to Apple laptops, innovation is what prevents the laptops from breaking.  No one wants a laptop that has visible protection.  You want laptops that look sleek, just like Mac laptops.

People also want a long battery life.  Apple guarantees a long battery life to last around 10 hours which is a whole work day.  PC do not last that long because they have so much programming, and they cannot balance it with providing life battery life.  You can have as much programming you want on your mac, and at the same time you can have a long battery life.

In conclusion, Apple provides many options for the user.  Innovation has provided so many options for Mac users, and has helped develop their technology.

Mac vs. PC - Spyware

Watch the following: (it is a Apple vs. PC Commercial based on 'Spyware')

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8TABhGdeGyM

Unfortunately I could not attach the video to this blog, so you can just click on the URL above and it will bring you to the appropriate page.

iLife is what makes Apple stand out from the rest of the technology world (which is generally P.C.).  The following is some iLife programs:

- iMovie
- iTunes
- iPhoto
- iCal

All of the programs mentioned above are apart of iLife.  All of the iLife programs can basically be used for different sections of your life.  For example, you can use iCal to schedule what is happening in your day to day life (it is just like a calendar).  If you are interested in music, iTunes can provide music to you 24/7. If you are in to photography, iPhoto can hold all of your pictures, and you can even edit your pictures in iPhoto.  If you enjoy making Movies, iMovie could not be a better program to help you create a movie.  It is a great program to use for school projects, or just for fun.  All of these programs provide a lot of options for people.  There are SO many programs in iLife that make your day to day life enjoyable.  iLife can introduce you to many things that are new to you.  No other laptop has a concept like iLife, and that is what is lacking from their computers.  iLife makes the process of buying a new laptop even more enjoyable.  The best of all is when you buy a product from the Apple Store, iLife is already downloaded into the laptop, there is no need to download it yourself.  So as soon as you purchase a technological device from Apple, you can instantly start playing around on iLife.

Mac vs. PC - Surgery

Watch the following (It's an Apple vs. PC Commercial based on 'surgery' for the P.C):

Upgrading laptops can take a while and the upgrade doesn't always go according to plan.  Sometimes when laptops are upgraded, the laptop had to be opened up in order to upgrade.  Upgrades usually work out really well, but they can mess up a lot of other things in the laptop if it is opened up.

Sometimes when the upgrade is done, some of the programs work really well.  This doesn't mean that every program works faster, the ones that were not upgraded tend to work slower.  A lot of the energy from the laptop goes towards upgraded programs, leaving non-upgraded programs working slower that usual.

With Macs, usually the majority of programs are updated and they all work pretty well.  A recent upgrade you can get on Macs is the Lion OSX.  Lion OSX upgrades all of the software on Mac's and has improved the processing speed of them

Apple - Textbooks

Carrying textbooks around school it not so fun, they are heavy and the pages rip very easily.  They often fall of tables, onto the floor, and damage quite easily.  Textbooks are also very expensive and are hard to maintain there good condition.

Recently Apple has partnered up with some of the biggest educational publishers in North America, including:

- Mifflin Harcourt
- McGraw Hill Cos.
- Pearson... etc

By partnering up with them, Apple will be able to have a copy of the majority of textbooks in North America on a program called iBooks 2.  Students will now be able to purchase textbooks online with iBook and in America, it costs less than $15.  Along with iBooks, Apple is planning on releasing a free program that Apple product users will be able to access.  The Apple product users will be able to make textbooks, cookbooks and many other similar contents on that program if they wish to do so.

iBooks 2 will make it easier for students to access textbooks where ever they are.  They don't have to worry about misplacing a textbook, ripping a textbook, writing on a textbook and the expenses of a textbook.  iBooks 2 will provide staff and students and new fun way of learning.   Using iBooks 2 will help students enhance their knowledge of technology and help them expand different ways of learning.

Mac vs. PC - Boxes

Watch the following (it is a Mac vs. PC commercial based on 'boxes'):
When people buy a new laptop, the majority of them wants one that has all of the materials you need in one place.  Some of you may have noticed that when you buy a mac, all of the materials you need come in one box and has very simple instructions.  However, for PC's they have a different story.  Yes, all of the materials come in one box but the instructions to start a PC computer are very difficult to understand and aren't user-friendly.  Apple ensures customers that there laptops are very easy to set up.

When you turn on laptops it usually takes a while for them to even turn on and get started, especially with PC's.  They take quite a long time to 'wake up' and start processing information.  Mac's turn on very quickly because there processing has been programmed to go quickly.  Especially for iPads, some of you may have noticed as soon as you take your case of your iPad, it turns right on!  Mac programmes there products to turn on quickly and sufficiently.

The reason why PC's take so long to turn on is because they have so many parts that need to work together in order to open a programme, and sometimes all of those parts don't work together.  The more parts, the slower the laptop.  Mac computers have minimum amount of parts and that is why there laptops work faster.  They have taken away un-needed parts and used the parts that are necessary to producing a fast and sufficient laptop.

Mac vs. PC - Pictures/iLife

Watch the following (It's a Mac vs. PC Commercial based of Pictures/iLife)

Imagine, you want to find a picture of your old high school friend on your laptop, but you have thousands of photos to look through, but you deal with it and look through every photo until you find the picture you want.  Now imagine, you still want to find a picture of your old high school friend on your laptop, and you have thousands of photos to look through, and you deal with finding the picture you need by using face recognition.  On iPhoto, you can tag people in your pictures and it will automatically tag that person in all the other pictures you own.  Wouldn't your life be so much easier?

iLife comes with macs as soon as you buy it from the store, it is already in the system of macs.  Some iLife programs are:

- iPhoto
- iTunes
- iMovie

... and many more.  iPhoto is where all of your photos are stored.  It shows all your pictures you have with high clarity and face recognition if you decide to use it.  If you put a name on someones face in a picture, then it will detect that same face on all the other pictures they are in, in your iphoto albums.

If you are having difficulty when finding pictures of people that you want to find, then iPhoto will help you  locate these pictures easily.  Many iLife programs are easy to use and very useful.

Mac vs. PC - Power cords

Watch the following (It's a Mac vs. PC Commercial based on Power cords)

Even though this commercial is over exaggerated, accidents like this do happen, it has even happened to me before, but with a mac power cord so nothing happened to me.  The different between the Apple and PC power cord:

Apple: Magnetically pops in and out of the socket
PC: Stays securely plugged into the socket.

If someone trips over a PC power cord, then they are most likely to fall over and hurt themselves.  Because the power cord is so securely plugged into the laptop then there is a higher risk of someone getting hurt when they trip over the cord.  The laptop may even slide of the desk and on to the floor.

If someone trips over a Mac power cord, then they most likely won't fall over because of the magnetic connection between the cord and the socket.  The cord would just pop right out if someone was to trip over it.  Some people may think that it is silly to have a power cord that can pop out really easily, but if you directly pull out an apple power cord, it does not come out that easily.  If you angle the power cord to come out of the socket, then it is easier to pull out.

Because the Apple power cord magnetically pops in and out of the socket, there would be less safety issues, and not many people would get hurt from tripping over an Apple power cord.
